In this spotlight, Joshua shares insights on what drew him to real estate, the importance of sales skills, and why taking time to assess risk is key to long-term success. Plus, a glimpse into the hobbies that keep him inspired outside of work.

1. Where do you work, and what is your current job title?

I work in Toronto as the Founder and CEO of Goodland Equity Partners, a real estate private equity firm specialising in investments in real estate development projects.

2. What led you to choose your career and/or industry?

My career in real estate began after completing my bachelor’s degree, when I joined a property development company in Auckland. Over more than 10 years, I gained hands-on experience in every stage of the development process — from acquisition and planning to construction and sales. After relocating to Toronto, I was approached by a real estate private equity firm, where I spent 11 years working closely with investors and institutional partners. These combined experiences gave me a deep understanding of both development and capital markets, which naturally led me to start my own firm. Real estate has always appealed to me because it’s tangible and transformative and combines strategic thinking with real-world impact — and I knew I wanted to build a career that brings long-term value to both communities and investors.

3. What is a professional and/or career highlight you're proud of?

Over the past 11 years, I’ve helped 1,000 investor families invest more than $300 million CAD in equity across over 60 real estate projects.

4. What is one skill you think is important to learn or improve today?

Sales skills are incredibly valuable — they can boost your effectiveness across many areas of your work.

5. What is a key lesson you've learnt in your career?

Take the time to carefully consider all the risks before making a decision — don’t rush into it..

6. Is there any book, podcast, or resource that has impacted your work life?

The book that has had the greatest impact on my work life is the Bible.

7. What do you like to do when you're not working and why?

I enjoy fencing and travelling in my free time.
